I recently purchased this backpack because I needed a case for my HP Envy 17.3 inch laptop. First off, this laptop fits quite well in the backpack, but I do not believe that it would fit a laptop that is much larger than this one.The case itself is a padded pouch located within the main compartment of the backpack. There is padding on the bottom of the pouch as well, so you won't have to worry about damaging your laptop when you set the backpack down.In addition to the padded case, there are a variety of other pockets and compartments within the backpack. There is the main pouch, another pouch (similar in size the to main one), a horizontal pouch along the front (kind of reminds me of a large pencil case) with mesh pouches, two small side pockets, and there is a hidden pocket sewn outside of the middle pouch. I wouldn't recommend filling this backpack to its max though since it will become quite heavy. Above the laptop case, there is another padded pocket, which is relatively small. I imagine that its purpose is for possibly carrying charging cables, but it could easily hold a cell phone and possibly a small tablet. I also noticed that in the same general compartment, there is a pocket made out of a fuzzy material. This could definitely fit a larger tablet, and it has a strap to hold the tablet in place. (It could also hold charging cables, I suppose.) I was pretty excited about this feature because I want to bring a laptop and a tablet to my classes. Now, I won't have to worry about the laptop crushing the tablet.Overall, this backpack is great. It is made out of quality material. The clasps seem secure, and I haven't gotten the zippers stuck thus far. It can easily carry a laptop, tablet, charging cables, cell phone, a couple textbooks, notebooks, and basic school supplies at once. There are only three cons to this backpack as far as I'm concerned, and they are not significant enough to change my rating. First, I wish that one of the side pockets was replaced with a mesh water bottle holder. Most backpacks have these, but this one doesn't for some reason. Secondly, I don't really like the flap that clips over the backpack. I see why it can be useful since it can hold your laptop in place if you forget to zipper the pouch. However, I feel like it is a bit too much work to access my belongings since I have an extra layer to deal with now. Finally, this backpack is very large. This is more of an issue that I brought upon myself though because I needed a backpack that would fit my laptop. However, I am only 5 feet tall, so I feel like I have some kind of turtle shell on when I wear this backpack. This bag is definitely worth the investment, but I would just be aware of the cons when making your purchase.
