It is gender-neutral. The strap is adjustable as to length on each end, going from a shoulder bag length to a crossbody length. It has a wide pad at the top of the strap that cannot be moved in position at all, it is a paetof the strap itslef, sewn in.The "front" is a large flap (with cheap noisy light gray polyester lining) with 2 good sized leather loops that go through buckles and snap open/closed. This is the access for the main inside compartments, same lining. Open a zipper and you will find a large open slot that can open about 6 inches wide. There is a zipper closure with 2 separate compartments inside. This zipper has a thick, heavier, silvered pull tab than we might normally see on a ladies bag, and the zipper end is a leather square sewn on, nice touches. One compartment is a tablet space, accessed by a velcro'd tab, and which has a little padding for protection (the outer wallet-type section is part of the "padding"). The other compartment in this zippered section (cheaper silver pull tab) has an open slot on one side wall and a zippered slot in the other side wall. The outside "back" of the bag which is more prominently shown in photos has 2 compartments each with zippered closure as shown. The back-most zipper opens from side-to-side to reveal the wallet-like section with the slits for cards, a small phone pouch (not smart phone), a large slit (for smart phone), 2 pen holders. The front-most zipper opens just across the top, a large space for items you might want faster access to, could also easily hold a smart phone. The zipper pull tabs are all the same as the inside - larger, heavier, silvered. It is a thick firm sturdy leather, not flimsy but soft to the touch with a decent grain. It has a lot of room and compartments and slots for all the goodies you may need for a meeting, or project, without having to carry a full-sized lap top case.
